THE ORIGINS

In the 1980s, the original group, made up of Diego Baliardo, other members of the family, and the Reyes family, rose to fame with phenomenal success. Their unique style, blending flamenco rumba, pop, and world music, won over a wide audience.

Their global hit Bamboleo (1987), followed by “Djobi Djoba”, “Volare”, and “Un Amor”, travelled the world. The group became one of the greatest ambassadors of Gypsy culture internationally.

A BORDERLESS MUSIC

The Gipsy Kings have sold over 60 million albums worldwide, earned gold and platinum records in several countries, and performed on the biggest stages, from the United States to Japan, through Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Their music, sung entirely in Spanish or “Gitano,” continues to cross generations and transcend borders.

Diego Baliardo is one of the original founding members of the legendary Gipsy Kings, a group that brought flamenco and rumba music to global fame. Born into a family of Spanish Gitano musicians who settled in southern France, Diego grew up surrounded by guitars, tradition, and the rich cultural heritage of his people. Music wasn’t just a passion, it was a way of life.

Alongside his relatives and childhood companions, Diego formed the Gipsy Kings in the late 1970s. Their unique blend of flamenco, pop, and Latin rhythms quickly captivated audiences around the world. With hits like Bamboleo, Volare, Djobi Djoba, and Bem Bem Maria, the group became a global phenomenon. Diego’s distinctive guitar playing, rhythmic, powerful, and deeply expressive, became a cornerstone of the Gipsy Kings’ signature sound.

Over the decades, Diego has remained a symbol of authenticity and passion. While trends changed and the music industry evolved, he stayed true to the Gipsy spirit, a blend of freedom, resilience, and emotional expression.

Today, Diego leads the project Gipsy Kings by Diego Baliardo, continuing to share the magic of his heritage with new generations. Surrounded by family members and musicians who share his vision, he brings the energy of the past into the present, keeping the soul of the music alive on stages around the world.

Diego Baliardo is more than a guitarist or performer. He is a guardian of tradition, a bridge between cultures, and a living voice of the flamenco legacy. With every chord and every performance, he reminds the world that gipsy music is not just to be heard, it’s to be felt.
